Why did this work? Apparently, Windows only tried to use the current user credentials once when connecting to the NAS and then used guest access. Clicking on a protected folder brought up the Enter network credentials dialog: Now (and after the IP ban period has expired, of course) it was possible to access the NAS through the file explorer. On other PCs running Windows 10, the described behavior was correct and the entire problem never appeared. Note: The description says that “if you do not configure this policy setting, the SMB client will allow insecure guest logons.” This was not true for me on Windows 11 21H2, the setting had to be explicitly enabled. This registry setting can be found under Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates ->Network -> Lanman Workstation -> Enable insecure guest logons:

This allows the PC to connect to SAMBA shares which are not protected by a password (such as the Public folder on a QNAP NAS). In the registry of my Windows PC, I enabled insecure guest logons for the SMB client. I tried a different solution which I found here. Disabling all guest shares on the NAS to force Windows to show the network credentials dialog.Disabling Network Access Protection on the NAS.Creating a user account on the NAS with the same user name and password as on Windows. There are many threads about this issue on the QNAP forum proposing various solutions, such as: You can see the failed login attempts in the System Connection Logs (if enabled for SAMBA): Solutions If this fails too many times and Network Access Protection on your NAS is enabled, your PC’s IP address will be banned: The reason: Windows will first try to connect to your NAS using your Windows login credentials. The NAS is still accessible from other PCs on the same network.

If you are using windows 10, try make sure that network discovery is enabled. The problem: You cannot access the SAMBA (SMB) shares on your QNAP NAS from the Windows File Explorer and after you tried, access to the web interface also stopped working. can try replacing it, but i suspect the issue in this case is something else.Īre you by chance running your pc client in a non admin account? can you try run qnap finder using admin to see if that makes any difference? or possibly reinstall qfinder? Only other thing i can think of is the ethernet cable has a issue. I'm assuming that your qnap leds are all indicative that it is powered on and without issue? usually if there is a serious issue it would blink different led colors or make beeping noises. If you're not accessing your QNAP remotely, or have services that need internet access, remove the gateway address from the QNAP so it can't send traffic to the internet Yes it makes it a LAN only device but if you don't need to access it remotely, it adds another layer of security that would mean the device is invisible to anyone outside your LAN. You can also try reboot your pc, your router and switch, and nas. If the NAS cannot be found, connect the NAS to the computer directly. Any firewalls on your pc is blocking access to the nas? one possible scenario. the NAS and the computer that runs the QNAP Qfinder are connected to the same subnet. In the past when i use dhcp and router went down then came back up, it usually sometimes resulted in issues for me.Īnother thing is probly firewall. I recommend you set a static ip in QTS so that the qnap nas ip remains fixed and unaffected if the router goes down.

Unfortunately, yesterday in a particularly good mood I installed.

Also how is your qnap getting it's ip? does it have a static ip setup? or did you do a DHCP? Lost network connection to QNAP NAS after Windows 10 upgrade.
